Hello Richard , Have you performed any testing on a standard alpine butterfly versus an alpine butterfly with an additional turn in the centre of the two strands, the loop/bight goes back through the centre of the knot to increase the radius of the centre – to give added strength due to larger bends and make the alpine easier to untie I hope my description is sufficent

I have not tested this.
Sounds like an interesting variation on the AB.
I’m not set up to do knot tests easily and the tests I have done I have found significant variation with rope brand, type, condition, etc.

Maybe we could slip this test in on this alpine butterfly during the workshop at High Point with Rob in March as a sideline ?
